Explore the Joy of Toys at our Toy Library

Our toy library has a current focus on play based learning. It's a learning initiative designed to support children aged 0 - 8 years. We focus on building resilience, enhancing wellbeing and promoting mental health through child-centered play, community connection and socialisation.

Based at East Maitland Library, our Toy Library has a range of toys to borrow and hosts play-based literacy programs. 

When can I visit the Toy Library?

Maitland Toy Library is now open at East Maitland Library.

When: Monday to Saturday, 11am - 2pm
Where: East Maitland Library, 3 Garnett Road, East Maitland

Frequently asked questions

If you're already a member of Maitland Libraries, you're already a Toy Library member too! If not, you can join the Library online or at any of our branches.
All library memberships, including Toy Library membership, are absolutely free.
We offer a diverse range of toys suitable for children from newborns to early school years. There's something here for everyone! We have dress ups, water play, puzzles and counters, wheeled toys, Indigenous cultural toys, sensory toys and more.
Borrowing toys is a breeze:

Have a browse of the toys and make your selection

Count all toy pieces before borrowing

Take your toy to the self-check machine or to the loans desk where our team will scan your toy. It will be added to your library card as on loan to you.
At this time, we don't offer renewals. We're confident your child will discover something new to love with each visit.
While we encourage careful selection, the toy library is a lending service and items are to be opened for play at home - not in the library.
Currently, we don't offer reservations. Rest assured, there are always wonderful toys available for borrowing. Simply chat with our friendly team and they can arrange for a freshly returned toy to be cleaned for you. 
Toys can be returned to East Maitland Library during opening hours. If you encounter any issues with a toy, please have a chat with our friendly team when returning the item.
Yes, all toys are cleaned with antibacterial wipes upon return. If you borrow a costume or fabric toy, kindly wash it before returning. Please return all toys dry.
We ask that customers count toy pieces before borrowing to ensure it is complete. If you find a missing piece after borrowing, please notify the library team via email at library@maitland.nsw.gov.au as soon as possible.
Contact the library team immediately via email at library@maitland.nsw.gov.au. If you're unable to find it, library team will guide you and you may be asked to pay the replacement fee.
Accidents happen! Let the library team know via email at library@maitland.nsw.gov.au. Depending on the toy's age, you may be asked to pay the replacement fee.
Unfortunately, no. All toys remain the property of Maitland City Council and must be returned.
If the item is in good condition and still suitable for the Toy Library, you'll be reimbursed the replacement fee. Just reach out to our friendly library team who will assist you.
Thank you for thinking of us and for your offer to donate your pre-loved toys to the Toy Library. Unfortunately we are not currently accepting donations are sorry for any disappointment this may cause. There are many local charity shops or organisations that may value your donations.
